The Challenge: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on your part).

Why 1001 Days? Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple challenges such as New Year's resolutions or a 'Bucket List'. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips, study semesters, or outdoor activities.

#9: Vote

Yesterday, I took my girls through the snow to go vote in the special election.

I am shocked by the outcome. If you had asked me a month ago, I would have told you that a Republican had no chance in hell of winning.

Regardless of my own political affiliation or who I voted for, I feel a sense of relief that there is now a bit more balance in the Government. I don't like one party having control of the White House (and by extension, the Supreme Court nominations) and Congress. I fully believe that for the system of 'checks and balances' to work, there needs to be a variety of viewpoints represented.

As a political junkie, I am eagerly looking forward to the mid-term elections. I should be a very interesting few months!

#72: Follow the food guide pyramid for one week

I went to My Pyramid and was able to create a personalized pyramid based on my height, weight, activity, and breastfeeding status.

Basically, my plan works out to this:

Approx. 2400 calories a day.
8 oz grains
3 cups veggies
2 cups fruit
3 cups dairy
6.5 oz meat/beans

I'm sad to say that I come no where near this...ever. OK, this was the first step. The next step is meal planning based on this info, and then following through with it.

#24: Read 5 Non-Parenting Books (2/5)

1/8/10: Read Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol. Loved his other books. This one...not as much. I love U.S. History and all, so that aspect kept me hopeful, but really it was a bit transparent. Decent mind candy though, and only took me 2 days to read.

2/3/10: Just completed Living History. I have attempted to read this book several times, but never got past the first few chapters. The Clinton Years were when I really started understanding and paying attention to politics. Yet, even so, reading this book brought up many events that I simply didn't remember. Very interesting. Also, very timely, given the current discussions on Health Care Reform and some of the current players in Washington.
